Rites Held For Jennie VanHauen

Jennie VanHauen died Saturday, January 1, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington where she has resided since September of 1983. She reached the age of 91 years, 3 months and 20 days.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, Holland, with Rev. Dick Kuiper officiating.

Pallbearers were Jim Hart, Ronnie Bolhuis, Steven VanHauen, Rex Dulin, Walter Lamprecht, Randy Berning and Josh Hart.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Jennie, of Maple Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of Parkersburg, was born the daughter of John and Annette Everts Engelkes on August 12, 1902, in Grundy county, south of Parkersburg. She received her education in a rural school in Fern.

On March 12, 1924, Jennie was united in marriage to Sievert VanHauen. They farmed for 43 years and retired to Parkersburg in 1967.

Jennie was an active member of Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland. She also sang in the church choir. Jennie enjoyed raising flowers and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sievert on November 5, 1971; an infant daughter, Marie Jane; her parents; and 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Jennie is survived by her 3 daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Tony) Rieken of Parkersburg, Leona VanLengen of Stout, and Mary Ann Bolhuis of Cedar Falls; 1 son, Lavern VanHauen of Cedar Falls; and 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
