Sievert VanHauen Died Friday

Sievert VanHauen, 68, of Parkersburg, died Friday evening, Nov. 5 in the Skandia Inn restaurant at Grundy Center, from an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 9th, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church with Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery with the Engelkes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sievert VanHauen, son of Henry and Katherine Geerdes VanHauen, was born in Beaver township, Grundy county, Iowa, on June 20, 1903. He received his education in the Grundy County School system. Nearly 48 years ago on March 12, 1924 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Engelkes at the VanHauen home by the Rev. D. Siemsen.

The family spent most of their married life on the VanHauen farm south of Parkersburg until they retired and moved to the present home in Parkersburg 6 years ago. Sievert was a long time member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

He had been afflicted with a heart condition for several years and was 68 years, 4 months and 15 days of age at the time of his death.

Sievert was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Marie Jane, and 1 sister, Tillie. Surviving are his wife Jennie; 4 children, Lorraine (Mrs. Klaas J. Muller) of Parkersburg, Leona (Mrs. Verne VanLengen) of Stout; LaVern of Cedar Falls, and Mary Ann (Mrs. Chris C. Bolhuis) of Cedar Falls; 1 sister, Etta (Mrs. Fred Luppen) of Parkersburg; 7 grandchildren, several aunts and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
