Herman Meester Dies From Heart Attack

Herman J. Meester of R.R.1 Holland, passed away at 5:50 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, 1982 at his farm home in Pleasant Valley Township, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, two miles west of Fern. Rev. Carl Regnerus officiated at the service.

Wayne Arends sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus." He was accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Walterman, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Alvin Meester, Marvin Meester, Leon Meester, Russell Meester, Kenneth Renken and Robert Meester. Ushers were Merle Bakker and Bernhard Everts. Mrs. Darrell Arends and Mrs. Clarence Muller were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland. The relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Meester was born on December 2, 1917 in Pleasant Valley Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Thomas K. and Anna Peters Meester. He attained the age of 64 years, six months and six days.

On October 6, 1938 he was united in marriage to Jeanett L. Henze at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. Linneman, and they farmed 43 years in Pleasant Valley township, living his entire life in Pleasant Valley township.

He was a former member of the Holland Church, and later joined the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, where he had served as a Deacon, an Elder, and also on the new parsonage building committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry K. and James C. Meester.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanett of RR1, Holland; two sons, Luverne Meester, RR1, Dike, Lesley Meester, RR1, Holland; one daughter, Mrs. Henry K. (Linda) Dingel, RR2, Grundy Center; two brothers, John K. Meester and Johannes Meester of Holland; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Renken, Aplington, Mrs. Sam (Tena) Paterni, Eldora and Mrs. Anna Murra, Wellsburg; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
