Mrs. J. G. Meester Died at Nursing Home Monday

Mrs. John G. Meester died at 10:30 Monday forenoon at the Custodial Nursing Home in Grundy Center, where she had been a patient during the past 34 months. She had been in failing health during the past five years. She was 80 years old.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center where funeral arrangements were made. Services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church west of Fern. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Gerald Osland.

Mrs. Meester was born on a Colfax township farm October 15, 1885. Her maiden name was Antje Peters. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Peters.

On March 1, 1909, Antje Peters and John G. Meester were married. They began housekeeping on a Colfax township farm, where they resided 16 years. The next 17 years they resided on a farm in Pleasant Valley township. On March 1, 1942, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg, where they purchased a home and where Mrs. Meester lived with her husband until she entered the nursing home at Grundy Center. Mr. Meester has since resided alone in the home in Wellsburg.

Surviving are the husband, two daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Henry G. VanHauen, Holland, and Mrs. Samuel Schmitt, Dike. The sons are Henry F. Meester, Wellsburg, and Alfred J. Meester, Holland. There are 14 surviving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors are four brothers, Heit Peters, Parkersburg; George Peters, Greene; Jake Peters, Cedar Falls; John Peters, of Dike.

There are two surviving sisters, Miss Dena Peters, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Harm Frieling, Grundy Center.

Mrs. Meester was preceded in death by her parents, one son, 2 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters and three brothers.
