Rites Held For John Luchtenburg

John Luchtenburg, of Parkersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 1998, at his home. He reached the age of 80 years and 31 days. He suffered from a stroke which left him partially disabled.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland. Russell Muilenburg officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bryan Miller, Lance Mennen, Travis Luchtenburg, Greg Luchtenburg, Chad Geiken and Austin Luchtenburg.

John was born the son of John and Tena (Walters) Luchtenburg on October 26, 1918, in Grundy County. He received his education at Pleasant Valley #2 School.

John was united in marriage on January 8, 1940, to Alice Geiken at the Reformed Church parsonage in Wellsburg. They made their home on a farm in rural Dike and in rural Parkersburg, before purchasing a farm near Buck Grove in 1949. John and Alice moved to their present home in Parkersburg upon retirement in 1978.

John was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, Holland. He enjoyed having his family around him, farming, and hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death was one infant son, Von Jay in 1955; his parents; and two sisters, Helen Luchtenburg and Mrs. Jennie Doescher.

John is survived by his wife, Alice Luchtenburg of Parkersburg; five children, two sons and three daughters and their spouses, Wendell and Carol Luchtenburg of Urbandale, Linda and Les Mennen of Aurora, Illinois, Velda and Dennis Geiken of Aplington, Nora and Mike Janssen of Cedar Falls and Ron and Darla Luchtenburg of Amana; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Brandt of Parkersburg and Delores (Mrs. Terry) Anderson, of Cedar Falls.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
