Mrs. Anna Brower Rites Thursday

Mrs. Anna Brower, 87, died Sunday, October 7, 1979 at 8:15 p.m. in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she had been confined since October 3.

Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 1:30 in the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf will officiate. Mrs. Arlan Schaap will sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer". She will be accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel who will also play selected organ numbers for the prelude and postlude. Casket bearers are Ray Wilson, Claire Venenga, John A. Meents, Gary Diekman, Jan Lockwood, and Jim Bacon. Edward Flater and Lloyd Dreesman will be ushers. Mrs. Bill Harken and Mrs. James Pieters are to be floral attendants. Larry Rhinesmith, Paul Rouse and the Farmers Savings Bank will provide cars for the family. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church cemetery, rural Holland. Relatives and friends will return to the church following the committal service for lunch and fellowship.

She was born December 19, 1891 in Pitsum, Germany, coming to the United States in her youth. She was married to Ray Wilson who died in 1917. On October 10, 1921 in Butler County, she was married to Henry Brower. They farmed in Grundy and Butler Counties until 1938 when they moved to Grundy Center. They then moved to Ackley in 1940. Mr. Brower died October 28, 1948. In 1959, the family moved to Grundy Center. She became a resident of Beverly Manor Convalescent Center October 6, 1977. She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Brower was preceded in death by her two husbands, one daughter, one grandchild, two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by two sons, Wilbert Wilson and John Brower of Grundy Center; four daughters, Mrs. John (Grace) Meents of rural Holland, Mrs. George (Henrietta) Smeins of Parkersburg, Mrs. Gene (Caroline) Fuls and Anna Mae Brower of Grundy Center; one brother, William Karsjens of Ackley; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Hemmen of Ackley, Mrs. Ed Miller of Allison; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home is in charge. A memorial fund has been established.
