Mrs. Sadie Benz Dies in Des Moines
Mrs. Sadie Benz, who was born in north Grundy county 86 years ago and who resided in the county during most of her lifetime, died in an old peoples' home in Des Moines last Saturday. Advanced age accounted for her death. She had been in the old people's home about a half-year. Prior to that for a number of years she was in the home of her son Fred in Des Moines and she also spent some time with her two nieces, the Eberline Sisters in Wellsburg.
The body was brought from Des Moines by a Des Moines undertaker to the Evangelical church in Pleasant Valley township where services were held on Tuesday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. Henning from Ackley. Burial was in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Benz's maiden name was Sadie Phillips. Following her marriage to William F. Benz, the couple lived a number of years on a farm near Buck Grove. They moved to Grundy Center about 60 years ago where Mr. Benz served several years as deputy sheriff, town councilman and mayor. Mr. Benz died March 23, 1924. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Benz continued to make her home in Grundy Center. Later for a number of years she was at the home of her adopted daughter, Marian Thoren, at Antioch, Ill.
Surviving are her adopted daughter and her son Fred of Des Moines.
