Grace E. Stephan, 97

Grace E. Stephan, 97, died May 31 at the Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. A Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on June 3 at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Reinbeck. Burial was in the church cemetery. A memorial fund is being established.

Born on May 27, 1905, Grace Elizabeth was the daughter of Jay and Frances (Pates) Stone. She grew up in the area of her birth and graduated from the New Hampton High School with the Class of 1923. She taught school in rural Chickasaw County. She was united in marriage to Christopher Stephan on June 14, 1927. They lived in New Hampton before moving to Reinbeck in 1936 where they opened Stephan's Bakery. Their talents and hard work introduced Reinbeck to their famous V-doughnuts, Irish bread and fresh cakes for weddings and other occasions. They owned and operated their business until 1968.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include four sons; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
