Gertrude, the fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Rodd, was born on the home farm in southern Melrose, March 31, 1876, and died at her home west of Hubbard, Iowa May 14, 1901. Deceased was married March 12, 1896, to Jacob Strawbridge with whom she lived in Grundy county until two years ago when they went to Hubbard. Gertie, as she was called, was a friend to everybody, being of a bright, cheerful disposition which gained and retained love. She was hopefully converted to Christ about five years ago, to which faith she has since clung, and died trusting in Him who gave her life. Three bright little girls are left who will never know a good mother's care although they will all have good homes with relatives. Remains were brought to Whitten and services held at 4 p.m., May 15, in the M.E. church and the remains laid to rest in the Benson cemetery.
