Betsy Perrin was born in Luzerne Co., Penn., July 29, 1827, and fell asleep at her home in Grundy county, Iowa, March 5, 1901, aged 73 years, 7 months and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Mr. John Long in 1849. In 1865 the family removed from Luzerne county, Pa., to Grundy county, Iowa, where she has ever since resided at the old homestead. This union was blessed with seven children, five of whom are living, Perrin at Winside, Neb., Geo. W., who lived with his aged mother, Clark at Paha, Wash., Elias at Whitten, and Mrs. Tillie Girton at Wayne, Neb., Ezra and Charles with the husband and father, having preceded the mother to the better land. Grandma Long, while not openly confessing her faith in Christ was a kind mother and a kind neighbor.

Our hearts are fastened to the world
With strong and various ties.
And every trouble cuts a string
And urges us to rise.

--The Grundy Republican (Grundy Center, Iowa), 14 March 1901, pg 8
