Uffe Bruncken Meinders

Mr. Meinders was born in Rorichum, Ostfriesland, Germany, on September 21st, 1835. He was baptized at Neermoor and received the rite of confirmation, after the manner of the Lutheran church. At the age of 29, in the year of 1864, Mr. Meinders came to America and settled down on a farm in Grundy county, Iowa. In the year of 1865, he was married to Miss Martha Wientjes and this union was blessed with eleven children, five of whom were taken before his own summons came to leave this valley of sorrow.

About twelve years ago, when the burden and the disabilities of old age began to weigh heavily upon him, Mr. Meinders moved to Aplington. Here he had the privileges of spending the evening of his life in comfort and rest, attending to his daily duties, practically on the day of his death, which occurred on Thursday, January 9, 1919. Very few reach his number of years, namely, 83 years, 3 months and 17 days. He is survived by an aged widow, two daughters and four sons, and numerous grandchildren and other relatives.

The funeral exercises were held at the Aplington Reformed church, Rev. G. Schnucker, the pastor officiating and preaching from Mark 13, 35. Interment took place at the cemetery of the Miller church, Rev. Mueller conducting the last rites.
