Folkert DeVries Dies of Consumption

Folkert DeVries died at his home north of town at four o'clock Sunday morning from consumption. He was first taken sick with the incurable disease last August. For a time thereafter he got better, but two weeks ago he took to his bed and he remained there until the end.

Funeral services were held at the house at one o'clock Wednesday and later at the Rixman church where interment was made.

Mr. DeVries was only in the prime of life. He was 39 years old the 24th of last March. He was born in Grundy county on the same quarter section where he died and he lived here continually all of that time. He was a son of Folkert DeVries Sr., one of the early settlers of this county. Sixteen years ago Mr. DeVries was married to Miss Hiska Spieker. To this union eight children were born, all of whom are living. The oldest is fifteen and the youngest is but a year old. Of the children there are girls and five are boys.

Mr. DeVries was a hard working conscientious farmer. He was a good citizen, an accommodating neighbor and a faithful husband and father. The wife and the large family of small children have the sympathy of the many who know them and who are their friends.

The deceased has a brother Will at Monok, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Will Tjaden residing at New Salem, N.D.
