Obituary

John Schaetzberg was born Jan. 7, 1850, at Simonswolde, East Frisia, Germany, and died at his home on the Kemmerer farm, three miles east of Parkersburg, on Thursday, Nov. 8, 1906, at the age of 56 years and 10 months.

He was married in 1877 to Lena Jaeger, his widow, who with seven children and several grandchildren remain to mourn his death. In 1884 Mr. Schaetzberg brought his family to this country and he had since resided either in Grundy or Butler counties. While residing near Buck Grove in 1894 he was converted and received into the membership of the German Baptist church at that place. He was a tireless worker, a good father, a faithful and beloved member of the church and respected as a good and upright man of his neighbors. He took sick last winter with gangrene of the lungs. He suffered greatly but seemed on the way to recovery, when he met with a relapse and the disease quickly consumed his vital forces and brought about his demise. The end came peacefully. He was buried at the church cemetery at Buck Grove, Sunday, Nov. 11, 1906. Rev. Pfeiffer of Parkersburg officiating at the house and Henry Frey and A. Willms at the church and cemetery.
