Ira Aiken was born Sept. 2, 1813, in Oswego county, New York, and died at his home in Melrose township Grundy county, March 18, 1888. He had resided in Melrose township for over 22 years, and had the respect and esteem of those who knew him best. He had been in feeble health for several years, and was very willing to depart this life and be at rest.
The funeral service was held at the Melrose M.E. church on Tuesday, March 20, conducted by Rev. A. M. Sanford, of Whitten. A very large number of those living in the vicinity attended his funeral, many of whom bore testimony to his christian character. He was buried in the cemetery near the church, and leaves an aged companion and two sons who feel very deeply the sorrow that has come upon them.
