Francis E. "Kip" Stover, 84

Francis E. "Kip" Stover, 84, of Dike, died August 28 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Funeral services were September 2 at the Reformed Church of Stout. Burial followed at the Stout Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was born January 17, 1919, the son of Guy and Ona (Sherbon) Stover. He attended several country schools throughout Grundy County, then finished at the Dike High School. On April 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elma Ruth Eiklenborg. They made their home in the Dike area where Francis farmed and sold seed corn for Pioneer Seed. He retired from farming in 1981 but continued to sell seed for several years. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout, had served on the Dike Chamber of Commerce and also on the Board of Directors of the Dike Coop. Francis enjoyed restoring and driving antique cars and tinkering in the shop. He and Elma had traveled much of the country in their R.V. and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Elma; daughters, Myrna (Jerry) Seper of Cheverly, MD, Mardelle "Mardi" Dudash of Stuttgart, Germany and Faye (Ken) Petersen of Grimes; sisters, Lois Lampman of Waterloo, Evelyn (Chuck) Lee of California, Dora Pence of Newton and Darlene (Lyle) Grapp of Cedar Falls; brother Guy Jr. (Lorraine) of Georgia, Jaye (Mary) of California and Virgil (Sharon) of Washington; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jesse and Cecil.
