Robert J. Waldemar, 67

Robert J. Waldemar, of Stout, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo of natural causes. He attained the age of 67 years and 12 days.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the Reformed Church, Stout. Pastor David Powers officiated. Burial was in the Stout Cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471. A memorial fund has been established.

Robert was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Arthur and Isabelle (King) Waldemar. Bob attended school in Harmony, MN until the ninth grade. He moved to Waterloo at the age of 18 where he started a job at Rath Packing Company. He worked there for 34 years. He married Ilene Struve on March 9, 1952 in Spring Valley, MN. Bob went into the United States Army in 1957 and was discharged in April 1962.

They lived in Waterloo until moving to Stout Feb. 24, 1964. They joined the Reformed Church of Stout where he served as a deacon for two terms and on the Church Cemetery Board for 12 years. Bob was the Stout mayor eight years, and served on the City Council. He drove the city snowplow and hauled gravel for the city streets. Bob was also active in the Stout Fire Department for many years. Bob drove semi trucks from 1985 until he retired in 1995. Bob was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout, where he and Ilene mowed the church lawns for many years. He was also a member of the Dike American Legion Post #471.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Ilene of Stout; two sisters, Bea and her husband Joe Lankey of LeCenter, MN, and Delores and her husband Bill Oeltjen of Spring Valley, MN; three brothers, Allen and his wife Betty Waldemar of Waterloo, Dean and his wife Kathy Waldemar of Scottsboro, AL and Kenneth Waldemar of Springfield, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
