Funeral Services May 25 For John DeBeer

Funeral services for John DeBeer, were held Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of Stout.

Pastor Don Ringnalda conducted the memorial service with Elaine Schnell as organist, and Lori Nielsen as soloist, singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." The congregation sang "Blessed Assurance."

Casket bearers were Calvin Heyenga, Charles Juel, John Konken, Harvey Eiklenborg, Vernon Lindaman and Bob Waldemar.

Many local folks remember the DeBeer & Ellinger General Merchandise Store during the teens and twenties. At one time the U.S. Post Office was in the back part of the store with Mr. Ellinger as postmaster and Peter DeBeer, John's father, the assistant Post Master. In those days a nickle would buy a sizable sack of candy and we kids loved to stop in the store after school hours with our nickle in hand.
