Services Held For Marie Peters
Mrs. Marie Peters, 704th Ave., Parkersburg, and a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington since October of 1983, passed away about 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where she was admitted as a patient at 10 a.m. the same day.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, 1984 in the Reformed Church of Stout with Pastor Don Ringnalda officiating.
Mrs. Elaine Schnell was the organist with Alan Stohr singing "Where the Roses Never Fade" and "It Is Well With My Soul". The congregational hymn was "A Child of the King."
Casket bearers were Daryl Meyer, Kenneth Eiklenborg, Tom Becker, Bob Meinders, Jack Amble and Mike Peters. Ushers were Harm Meyer and Francis Stover. Interment followed in the Stout cemetery.
Mrs. Peters was born the daughter of Koert and Hemkea Meyer Miller on August 28, 1899 in Grundy county, near Stout, IA. She attended rural school near her home.
On February 26, 1921, Marie was united in marriage to Jake Peters in the parsonage of the Reformed Church of Stout. Following their marriage they farmed in Grundy county, mostly in the Stout area. In 1970 they retired and built a new home in Parkersburg. Jake passed away on July 3, 1973.
She reached the age of 84 years, 10 months and 13 days.
Besides helping farm with her husband, she was the mother of four children, 2 daughters and 2 sons, grandmother and great-grandmother to their children, and was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.
Marie is survived by her two daughters: Esther and her husband James Meyer of R1, Grundy Center; Carrie and her husband, Harvey Eiklenborg, rural Dike; two sons, Harvey Peters and his wife, Eleanor of Parkersburg; and John Peters and his wife, Darlene of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Mrs. Alice Tapper and Mrs. Dena Rademaker, both of Stout, Mrs. Jessie Young and Carrie, Mrs. Harland Horner, both of Cedar Falls, two brothers, Oscar Miller of Parkersburg and Cort Miller of Baltimore, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; her parents, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.
Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
