Fred Bruns Services

Fred Bruns died at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, November 29th, in Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He had suffered from a heart condition for over two years. Fred reached the age of 81 years, four months, and four days.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 3, 1979, at the Reformed Church of Stout with Rev. Mark Volkers officiating. The organist was Mrs. Elaine Schnell and pianist was Mrs. Irene Bolhuis, and the vocal quartet was August Meester, Elmer Meester, Calvin Clauson, and Calvin Heyenga. Casketbearers were Henry VanEllen, Gordon Petersen, Gerald Bruns, William Bruns, Frank Eiklenborg, and Lewis DeGroote. Interment followed in the Stout Cemetery.

Fred Bruns was born the son of Jurgen and Catherine Marks Bruns on July 25, 1898, in Lincoln township, Grundy county. He attended rural school.

On February 12, 1924, he was united in marriage with Trena Petersen in the bride's parents home in Beaver township. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Stout area in Grundy county and moved to their present home in 1962, following Fred's retirement.

Mr. Bruns was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.

He is survived by his wife, Trena, a niece, that was raised as a daughter from the age of two, Mrs. Elmer (Kathryn) Boelman of Grundy Center, a grandson, that was also raised as a son from an early age, John Harold Meinders of Stout, a great-grandson, a sister, Mrs. Bertha Niemann of Clear Lake, So. Dak.; and a brother, John Bruns of Alden, Iowa. Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence, his parents, three sisters, and four brothers.

Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
