Henry Konken Of Stout, Died
Henry Konken died at the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Grundy Center on Thursday evening, March 17th, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 25 days.
Mr. Konken had suffered from a lingering illness and was a resident of the Nursing home for the past 7 years, where his wife is also a patient.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 21st, at the Stout Reformed Church with Rev. Mark H. Volkers officiating, and interment was in the Stout Cemetery.
He was the son of Harm and Fannie Konken, was born Nov. 20, 1888, on a farm in Beaver township, Grundy county, Iowa. He attended Grundy County rural schools.
Henry married Mary Hempen on March 4th, 1918, in her parents home in Stout. They farmed in the Stout vicinity until retiring, moving to Stout in 1952, and were members of the Stout Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, John H. Konken of Stout; daughter, Mrs. Harold (Harriet) Houlihan of Marshalltown; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Sam Konken, Waterloo; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wiltfang, Parkersburg, Mrs. Fannie Hempen, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Rena Bergman of Dike. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
The Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
