George Berends Died Friday

George Berends, age 72, died suddenly at his farm home, rural Dike, Friday, May 21, 1976 of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m., May 24, 1976 at the Reformed Church of Stout with Rev. Paul Tanis officiating. Interment was in the Stout Cemetery. Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Bernard Schnell was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Konken sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Face To Face." Pallbearers were John Kaput, Carl Alter, George Viet, Dick Arends, Rodney Kendrick, and Reinhard Kalkwarf.

George was born the son of Gerhard and Martha Kruse Berends on Nov. 30, 1903 in Grundy County on his present farm where he lived his entire life. He married Fannie Kalkwarf on January 24, 1929 at the Stout parsonage and was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout. He retired from farming in 1965.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie, and six sisters, Mrs. Fannie Viet; Martha, Mrs. Henry Behrends; Elisabeth, Mrs. E. B. Engelkes, all of Stout; Minnie, Mrs. Brunk Lauterbach and June, Mrs. Elmer Meester, both of Parkersburg; and Mrs. R. (Marie) Kalkwarf of Dike. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
