Gertrude S. Allspach, 99

Gertrude Sieberdena Trey Allspach, of the Maple Manor Village, Aplington, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Maple Manor of natural causes. She reached the age of 99 years, four months and nine days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of Stout with Pastor Neal Ooms officiating. Interment was in the Stout Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brad Harken, Gene Oelmann, Kirk Christensen, Kenneth Oelmann, Mark Oelmann and Mike Damiano.

Gertrude was born the daughter of John and Henricka Groeneveld Trey on June 13, 1900, in Butler County, Parkersburg. She received her education from the Parkersburg School.

On Jan. 12, 1927, Gertrude Trey was united in marriage with George Allspach in Parkersburg. They made their home and farmed in Grundy County near Stout. When they retired in 1977 they moved to Parkersburg. One and a half years ago they moved to the Maple Manor Village.

Gertrude was a life long member of the Reformed Church of Stout. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening. Gertrude was an excellent cook. Her family especially liked her homemade bread. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and loved it when the grandchildren came to visit.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ben J. and John Trey.

Gertrude is survived by her husband, George Allspach of the Maple Manor Village, Aplington; one son, James Allspach of Grandview, MO; six daughters and spouses, Florence and Raymond Oelmann of Ackley, Henri and Robert Damiano of Devon, PA, Jean and Robert Miersma of Wauwatosa, WI, Wilma and Roger Winkels of Grand Haven, MI, Maggie and Robert Christensen of Dike and Mary and Ed Harken of Cedar Falls; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lena Escher of Parkersburg.

Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
