Sam Cirksena, 88, Died Sunday

Sam Cirksena, of Holland, died at noon on Sunday, Dec. 27th, at the extended care unit at Allen Memorial hospital at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Sam Cirksena, son of Remmer and Florence Cirksena, was born on Feb. 22, 1882, at Foreston, Ill. The Cirksena family came to the Butler-Grundy county area when he was a boy. Following his marriage in 1907 to Miss Florence Konken they farmed for many years in the Stout vicinity. In 1938 they moved to Holland, Iowa, and Sam was engaged in the selling of feeds and seed corn. Following the death of his wife he has continued to live in Holland except for the past few weeks when he stayed for a short time with his son, Ray, until he was hospitalized at Allen Memorial hospital at Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 daughter, his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Surviving are 2 sons, Ray of Grundy Center and Herman of Parkersburg; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30th, at the Stout Gospel Hall with Paul Elliott and Leonard DeBuhr officiating. Interment was in the Stout Cemetery.

Engelkes Funeral Home at Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements.
