Obituary Robert Aswegen

Robert Toleus Aswegen was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Beaver twp., Grundy county, as the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Aswegen. Robert had the misfortune of falling which resulted in much suffering and finally death. He was first hurt in 1929, from which time on he began to linger a little, until the effects of the fall became more acute, so that in the late fall of 1931 and the fore part of 1932 the doctors considered his case malignant. But when there was no hope held out for him, it was then that a turning point for his improvement occurred. His condition improved to such an extent that he was able to do most any kind of work of not too heavy a nature.

Robert took note of the fact that after he had gotten over his first illness, 10 years had been added to his life. (An Ezekiel of old was told that 15 years should be added to his life.) Robert was resigned to his condition and his Savior. This fact we base upon the way he expressed himself and the way he took his illness in such a patient manner.

After the death of his mother, he made his home most of the time with his brother Luke and wife. In his illness he was given the best of care by them and his sister Dena.

Robert reached an age of 27 years, 10 months and 22 days. He is survived by his father, 8 brothers and 3 sisters, besides other relatives and friends. His brothers are: Henry, Grundy Center; John, Dike; Harm, Mexico, Mo.; Fred and William of Grundy Center; George, Luke and Joe, all of Dike; his sisters are: Dena, single; Anna, Mrs. Ernest Kuehle, Gladbrook; Mrs. Eberhart Mudderman, Ackley. Those that preceded him in death are a brother, David, in 1918; a sister, Tillie, Mrs. Geo. Rewerts, in 1925, and his mother in 1932.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Reformed church in Stout, preceded by a brief service at the Luke Aswegen home, conducted by the pastor of the church. Interment was in the family lot on the Stout cemetery.
