Jacob DeBoer Died Friday; Sick 3 Weeks

Jacob DeBoer died at his home in Grundy Center Friday morning. He was nearly 86 years old and had resided in Grundy county 61 years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Stephen funeral home at 1 o'clock and later at the Bethany Presbyterian church. Burial was in the cemetery at Stout. Services were conducted by Rev. F. J. Langenberg.

Following is the obituary as read by the pastor:
Jacob George DeBoer was born March 14, 1857, at Emden, Eastfriesland, Germany. He attended the schools in Germany, and served in the army three years. In 1881 at the age of 24 he came to America and to Grundy county where he worked as a farm hand for three years. In 1884 he was united in marriage with Petirke Nederhoff, to which union ten children were born. Mr. DeBoer lived in Grundy county all his life, with the exception of the two years he lived in Minnesota. In 1913 he came to live in Grundy Center, where he spent the remainder of his earthly life.

The departed became a member of Bethany Presbyterian church in 1914, faithfully attending the services until about eight months ago, when because of various infirmities he felt he could not walk that distance.

After the death of his first wife, Mr. DeBoer married Mrs. Hannah Minneheim in 1922, who died in March, 1933. In 1934 he married Gretje Wissmann, who died in July, 1936.

About three weeks ago Mr. DeBoer became sick, remaining in bed since Sunday, Nov. 29. The nature of his disease hastened his death, which came upon him peacefully, as the calm in the night, at 9:15 Friday morning, Dec. 11, reaching the age of 85 years, 8 months and 27 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following children John of Bruce, South Dakota; Henry of Dexter, Minn.; Margaret (Mrs. Ike Gurdis) of Spearfish, South Dakota; Anna (Mrs. Ellsworth Cox) of Centuria, Wisconsin; and Sam of Grand Meadow, Minnesota. Five children preceded him in death.
