Obituary Of Mr. O. Diekhoff

Had Been a Resident of Grundy County Since 1875

Mr. Oltman Diekhoff, one of the most highly respected citizens of the community in which he lived, died at his late residence in Stout on Monday afternoon, June 30, 1919, at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 13 days. His death was so sudden and unexpected, it came as a heavy, crushing blow to the community and especially to those of his family.

The deceased left the fatherland, came to America in 1868, and settled near Dixon, Ill., and the following year moved to near Adaline, Ill. Since 1875 he has lived in Grundy county, Iowa, and spent the last 32 years of his life in and near Stout. His marriage to Etta Janssen occurred in 1885, to which union were born two daughters, who, with the beloved wife and mother, survive to mourn the loss. The daughters are Mrs. Ed. Tapper and Mary, both of Stout. Three brothers, George Diekhoff, Fern, Iowa, Rev. Wm. Diekhoff, Oregon, Ill., D. Diekhoff, Stewartsville, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Tholen of Parkersburg, Iowa.

For many years he enjoyed in a remarkable degree the faith and hope of the christian and his time, intellect and money has been freely given to advance the interests of Christ's kingdom on the earth. He has lived to see a little church society, few in numbers but rich in faith, which he helped to organize, grow until its membership increased and its influence is exerted in a helpful manner over the entire community.

Funeral services were held the following Thursday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of people which filled the spacious room of the Stout church to overflowing. The universal verdict of all who knew Mr. Diekhoff is that he was a good man, a Christian whose influence was at all times felt on the side of right and whose good name will be his lasting monument.
