Death Of Henry Marks, Sr.

Was A Pioneer Settler of Grundy County

The death of Henry Marks, Sr., a pioneer settler of Grundy county for 15 years, occurred Thursday evening, May 1st, 1919, at the Marks homestead in Stout.

Mr. Marks was born at East Friesland, Germany, February 16th, 1839. His first marriage occurred to Geske Grunfelt in Germany. To this union were born six children, two of whom together with his wife preceded him after they crossed the ocean to this country in 1874. His second marriage occurred in 1884 to Dena Aswegan. To this union were born seven children, one of whom preceded him while living on his farm near the Lincoln Center church.

He was a member of the Lincoln Center church and held an official and active identity with that religious body until he became affiliated with the Reformed church at Stout, shortly after he, together with his family, moved to Stout in 1912. He was a noble christian patriarch and leaves a record that will be a heavenly benediction upon those most closely connected with him by the ties of kindred and affection.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, the Rev. F. Reeverts his pastor, officiating, and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and people which filled the spacious room of the church. Interment was made in the cemetery at Stout.
