Mrs. H. Andreessen, Old Grundy Resident Died Thursday
Mrs. Henry Andreessen, one of the early residents of northeast Grundy, died at her home at Stout last Thursday. Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Sunday afternoon and later at the Reformed church. The services were in charge of the local pastor, Rev. W. J. Heyenga. Burial was in the family lot in the cemetery at Stout.
Mrs. Andreessen was 69 years old. She was born in Germany. Her maiden name was Eska Foelrich. She came to this country when she was but three years old and early in life became a resident of Grundy county where about 50 years ago she was married to Henry Andreessen. The Andreessen family resided on a farm in Beaver township until 15 years ago when they moved to Stout. Mr. Andreessen died about a year ago.
Surviving relatives are four sons and four daughters. The sons are Henry, Plainfield, Iowa, Dan, Herman and William who reside in this county. The daughters are Mrs. Charles Juel and Mrs. Glenn Ellinger, Stout; Mrs. Fred Eiklenborg, Dike; and Mrs. Arend Arends, Parkersburg. There are 17 grandchildren.
Mrs. Eske Andreessen, nee Foelrich, was born Dec. 25, 1865, at Pilsum, Ostfriesland, Germany. When about three years old she came with her parents to the United States and resided at first near Forreston, Illinois. Later they came to Grundy county, Iowa, where the departed Mrs. Andreessen attended public school and grew to womanhood, and lived to the end of her life's career.
On Feb. 28, 1888, she was united in marriage with H. N. Andreessen. It was their privilege to sojourn together for over 45 years. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Andreessen, six sons and four daughters, two of whom preceded the parent to the great beyond.
In 1919, when the family gave up farming, they moved to Stout. Because of thrift, industry, and above all the blessing of God, they were able to live and spend their declining years in comfort.
On Sept. 26, 1933, the husband of the deceased passed out of the realm of this life. And now on Feb. 7, 1935, the summons came to Mrs. H. N. Andreessen. Last Fall at Iowa City her ailment was pronounced a cancerous tumor of the kidneys. In spite of this dread disease, the Lord spared her from much suffering, which she realized and admitted. From the beginning of her ailment she completely submitted herself to the guidance and will of God. Mrs. Andreessen reached an age of 69 years, 1 month and 13 days.
