Carelyn Irene Harken Hartema, 85, of Austinville, died at home Friday, June 20.

She was born June 5, 1929, in rural Austinville, daughter of Isbrandt and Rose Stubbe Harken. On Aug. 3, 1951, she married Laurence Hartema at West Friesland Presbyterian Church, Ackley; he preceded her in death.

Carelyn graduated from Ackley High School and retired from Ackley Canning Factory.

Survived by: a daughter, Nancy (Steve Ludwig) Boelman of Ackley; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Nellie Harken of Aplington, Lillian Voy of Ackley and Dorothy Knoll of Bradford.

Preceded in death by: her parents; and three brothers, Raymond, Andrew and Theodore Harken.

Celebration of Life services: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at West Friesland Church, Ackley, with a private family inurnment. Sietsema Funeral Home, Ackley, is assisting with the arrangements.
