Lula Martha Mary Rops, 90, of Austinville, died Sunday, April 22 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Austinville Christian Reformed Church. Burial was in the West Friesland Cemetery, Ackley.
Lula Martha Mary was born on October 8, 1910 on a farm in rural Hardin County, the daughter of August and Amelia (Amman) Brand. She attended country schools. She was married to John Peter Rops on January 20, 1932 at Bristow.
Lula spent her life caring for and enjoying her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sunday dinners at Moms was a fun-filled tradition. She also enjoyed music. After John's death in 1960, Lula became a very dedicated staff member at Maple Manor in Aplington. She was employed there for 14 years. On July 1, 1977, Lula became a resident of the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
She was a member of the Austinville Christian Reformed Church.
Surviving are seven children, Valda Mae Dougan of Iowa Falls, Marvin John Rops and wife Jeanette of Cedar Rapids, JoAnn Amelia Beving and husband Gene of Ackley, Betty Lou Harken and husband Don of Ackley, Mary Martha Ascher and husband Junior of Grundy Center, Frances Kay Hook and husband Floyd of Maryville, MO and Dennis Peter Rops and wife LaDonna of Aplington; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Heitland of Greene; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dietz of Ackley; and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Woodley and Robert Henkel of Ackley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1960; a son, Leonard who died in infancy in 1949; her parents, a son-in-law, Arlo Dougan; a daughter-in-law, Verla Rops; and a granddaughter, Tresa Rops.
Sietsema Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
