Vincent Groninga Services Held

Vincent Groninga, 78, of Ackley, passed away Sunday, February 23, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 26, at 10 a.m. at West Friesland Presbyterian Church, Ackley, with Rev. Randy Crane officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Vincent was born February 14, 1919, in Ackley, to son of Klaus and Reka Heyenga Groninga. He was a graduate of Ackley High School.

He was an all state football player, named to the Des Moines Register All State Team in 1937, First Team All State Left Tackle in 1937 by the Iowa Daily Press Association.

Surviving are 2 nephews, Steve Groninga of Ackley and Kenny Groninga of Iowa Falls; and 1 niece, Sheryl Flater of Evergreen, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers, Kenneth, Vernon and a brother in infancy.
