Tonjes Franzen, 83, died Saturday night at the state hospital at Independence where he had been receiving care the past month. He never married.
Following the death of his sister nearly 25 years ago he came to Ackley and made his home with friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the West Friesland church, Rev. Peter Eckhoff officiating.

Obituary-Tonjes Franssen
Tonjes Franssen was born near Emden, Germany in 1861 upon the fifteenth day of December.
He came to America in 1893 and he spent most of his life near and in Ackley, with his mother and sister, who preceded him in death in 1896 and 1919.
In the year of 1894 he made profession of his faith in Christ and became an active member of the Westfriesland Presbyterian church. He served this church as trustee for a number of years.
Mr. Franssen passed away December 24 at the age of 83 years and 9 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure three nieces, Miss Carry Pommer; Mrs. M. Redenius of Wesley, Iowa, Mrs. Henry A. Janssen of Aplington, and one nephew, George Pommer of Woden; also three nieces and one nephew in Germany.
