Obituary of Young Man Whose Death Was Sudden
Death is the last enemy man thinks of. That it will also occur to him few seem to think of. Again we have learned how soon life may be snatched away, when we were informed of the sudden passing away of Wallace Groninga, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Groninga, living one-half mile east of Ackley, Iowa. On Sunday preceding his death he attended church service as usual. On Monday morning, June 20, his mother found him in his room. He had already passed away. The cause of his sudden death was heart failure. For several years he had been suffering from heart disease. Wallace was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Washington township, Butler county. He reached an age of 23 years and 6 months. It is a severe shock to the grief stricken family and the heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to them.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Those remaining to mourn his early departure are his grief-stricken parents, his sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Holleran, and Josephine, his only brother Mervin, besides many near relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, under the shade trees of Westfriesland Presbyterian church, led by the pastor, Henry Johnson. A very large number had gathered to pay their last respect to the departed one. His remains were laid in the family lot of the cemetery.
