Rites Held For E. Buschman
Mrs. Emma H. Buschman passed away Monday, February 22, at the Covenant Medical Center on Kimball in Waterloo. She reached the age of 90 years, five months, and 27 days.
Services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, on February 24 at 1:30. The Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated, and he was assisted by Rev. Frank Snuttjer.
Marvin Boelman sang "How Great Thou Art," and the congregation sang "Be Still My Soul." The accompanist was Mrs. Raymond Appel, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Loren Neymeyer, Douglas Neymeyer, Ryan Neymeyer, Brent Neymeyer, Leland Neymeyer, and Robert Campman.
The ushers were Edward Flater and Raymond Huisman.
Mrs. Bill Harken and Mrs. Vernon Kruger were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Interment was in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Ackley.
Mrs. Buschman was born on a farm in German Township, Grundy County, on August 25, 1897. She was the daughter of Enno K. and Wendell Toomsen Harken.
She attended rural school and graduated from the Aplington High School in 1917. She taught in rural schools and junior high. She last taught in Carroll. She received her B.A. from the University of Dubuque.
On June 28, 1934, she was united in marriage to Elzo H. Buschman at the Dubuque Seminary Chapel in Dubuque.
She, with her husband, served four pastorates. In June of 1959, they made their home in Grundy Center.
Emma was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church at Ellsworth, MN, and in the later years, was affiliated with the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. E. H. Buschman, of Grundy Center, and by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
