Gladys Ashby Dies Thursday At LTC Unit

Gladys Ashby, 83, died on February 11 at the Grundy Center Hospital Long Term Care Unit from a brain tumor. She willed her body to the Medical School at Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born May 29, 1904, in Wellsburg to Dr. C. H. Heddens and Eva Eells Heddens in Wellsburg.

She attended the Wellsburg Public School and graduated from Wellsburg High School and from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. Following her graduation from college she taught in Wellsburg for two years and at Marshall Junior High for 17 years.

In May 1942 she married Stuart Ashby and they resided in Chicago until 1965 when they retired in Wellsburg.

Her survivors include a brother, John of Winter Park, FL, and a brother, Harry of Edinburg, TX, and six nieces and one nephew.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Stuart in 1973, and her brother, Claude.
