John Meyer Dead
John Meyer died at his home two miles west of Wellsburg Tuesday. He had been sick most of the winter with a severe cold and this with his old age resulted in his death. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Smith church and they were largely attended.
Mr. Meyer was 79 years old. He was born in Germany and came to this country over 40 years ago. He lived for a short time in Illinois and then removed to Jones county, Iowa. Thirty-nine years ago he and his family came to Grundy county and lived here continually since. The family lived on the farm constantly. Mr. Meyer was the father of three children, all being girls. Two of them survive him. They are Mrs. L. H. Luitjens and Mrs. Julius Heikens, both of this county. The third daughter, Mrs. Boomgarden died about twenty years ago. Mr. Meyer's wife still lives. She is in her 81st year and the shock of her husband's death will prove a severe one to her in her extremely old age.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were married 51 years ago and were one of the oldest pioneer couples in Grundy county.
Mr. Meyer had faith in Grundy county land and with good judgement, economy and hard work he accumulated a large fortune. At his death he was the owner of over a section of land in Grundy and Hardin counties.
