Adam Schuck was born in Germany, July 23rd, 1828, and died at his home in Parkersburg, Iowa, May 14th, 1906, aged seventy-seven years, four months and twenty-one days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Emmel December 26th, 1852, moved with his family to Peoria, Illinois, in 1866 and settled on a farm near there. Five years later, 1871, he came to Iowa and bought a farm six miles southwest of Parkersburg where the wife of his youth died April 13th, 1890.
April 6th, 1893, he was married to Elizabeth Nau of Grundy Center, Iowa and soon after moved to Parkersburg where he has resided ever since, and has been known as a kind husband and obliging neighbor.
In early life he united with the German Lutheran church to which faith he held until called to his reward. His neighbors say of him "He was a good man."
He was the father of eleven children, five of whom survive him. Conrad, of near Parkersburg, Paul, of Little Rock, Elizabeth Turner of Parkersburg and Mrs. Kate Slight of Buck Grove, and Herman Schuck who resides on the old homestead six miles southwest of town. These all with his companion mourn his departure but their loss is his eternal gain for he often said he longed to go and be at rest. May the grace of God sustain the sorrowing ones.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Norton were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock, May 16th at the home and also at the German Lutheran church near Wellsburg at one o'clock conducted by Rev. Henry and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church where his first wife and three of his children were buried some years ago.
Those who were present at the funeral were: Paul Schuck of Little Rock, Mrs. Aug. Meyer of Titonka, Mrs. John Fenzen of Reinbeck and Henry Dingel of Buffalo Center.
