Claus Hinken died Wednesday morning of last week at the home of his cousin, Henry Maas, north of Wellsburg. The cause of death was influenza, and death came suddenly, after only three days of illness. He was not in robust health, having been somewhat weakened by illness, which had left him an easy victim at the onset of influenza.

He returned about a week ago from a visit with the Terbeck family at Buffalo Center, and stated that he intended to rest for a while before taking up a regular work. He was helping last Friday in the cleaning of the sidewalks in Wellsburg, around the Henry Neessen hotel property corner, which he did as a favor to Mrs. Neessen, since there was no one to do the work. Claus was working for Henry Neessen at the time of the latter's death.

The funeral was held Friday, December 6th at the home of Claus's father, Heinke Hinken, on the John Peters home northeast of Wellsburg.

The pall bearers were W. Harken, John Peters, Geo. Sietsma, Fred Hippen, Henry Kolthoff and Rudolph Hook.

Claus leaves a father, Heinke Hinken, and one brother, Sam Hinken.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. Heinrichs.
