Lester Eckhoff Is Called Away

Passes Away Friday Morning While Enroute To The Iowa City Hospital For Treatment

First Paralysis Victim

Eight Year Old Lad Was Ill But A Few Days And His Death Came As A Severe Shock To All

Friday morning the shocking news was circulated through the vicinity that Lester Boyd, 8 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Eckhoff had passed away at about 6 a.m. that morning, a victim of that dreadful disease infantile paralysis. He had been afflicted with the disease for only a few days. In a last effort to save the little lad, his parents and Dr. Ford planned to take him to the hospital in Iowa City to be placed in one of the "iron lungs" there but they had traveled only a short distance from home when the last spark of life passed out of the little body.

Lester Boyd Eckhoff was born on November 19, 1928, the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Eckhoff and was 8 years, 11 months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. He has lived all of his short life with his parents and had a legion of friends who with his parents, sister, grandparents and other relatives will mourn his untimely passing.

He is survived by his parents, an older sister, Florence and 3 grandparents, L. T. Meints and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Eckhoff besides many other relatives.

Private funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Voskuil of Holland. Interment was made in the cemetery by the First Christian Reformed Church west of town.

We extend sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved parents, sister and other relatives.

"The Lord hath given, the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."
