Mrs. John Rah Passed Away Thursday Funeral Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. John Rah, who passed away at the family home west of town last Thursday, were held at the home Monday, Nov. 24 and later at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Rev. Joseph VandeKieft, the pastor, had charge of the services. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Music was furnished by Miss Julia Wulf, Miss Inez Nederhoff, Miss Genevieve Bakker and Mrs. Claus Primus with Miss Esther Haupt as pianist and Mrs. John Ruter, organist. Flower attendants were Miss Ordie Geerdes and Mrs. Ben E. Nederhoff. Casketbearers, John Heikens, Ebbo Heikens, Ausbrand Janssen, Jake G. Geerdes, Gratus J. Geerdes, Ben E. Nederhoff.

Mrs. John Rah, nee Gertie Mennenga, was born in Grundy County, Iowa on May 26th, 1870. She was one of a family of eight children of whom three still live to mourn her loss. She spent her whole life in the vicinity of Wellsburg. On March 11, 1890 she was united in marriage with John Rah with whom she lived in happy wedlock till the time of her death. Mrs. Rah passed out of this life on Nov. 20th, 1947. She is survived by her husband, one brother, Obo Mennenga of Steamboat Rock; two sisters, Mrs. H. Bleeker of Steamboat Rock and Mrs. H. Luppen of Wellsburg.

End Comes For Mrs. John Rah

Mrs. John Rah died at her home 2 1/2 miles west of Wellsburg at 3:25 Thursday afternoon, following a long illness. She was afflicted with gangrene for more than a year and her condition the last weeks of her life became very critical.

Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Monday and later at the First Christian Reformed church. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Joseph VandeKieft. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. There was a very large attendance at the church services.

Pallbearers were John and Ebbo Heikens, Ausbrand Janssen, Jake G. Geerdes, Gratus J. Geerdes and Ben E. Nederhoff.

Lived in Shiloh Township All Of Her Life
Mrs. Rah was 77 years old. She spent her entire life on farms in Shiloh township. Her maiden name was Gertrude Mennenga, among early residents of Shiloh township. On March 11, 1890, she and John Rah were married. The ceremony was at the First Christian Reformed church and it was performed by Rev. H. C. Bode. The couple began housekeeping on the farm 2 1/2 miles west of Wellsburg and resided there during all of their married life. They were members continually and regular attendants at the First Christian Reformed church. Mrs. Rah was born May 26, 1870.

Surviving members of her family are her husband, one brother, Obbo Mennenga, and two sisters, Mrs. Hemmo Luppen and Mrs. Ella Bleeker.
