Services Held for Mrs. Peter Riekena Friday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. Peter B. Riekena were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the home and later at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Rev. Bernard Visscher was officiating pastor. Music was furnished by a men's quartet composed of Richard Schafer, Larry Riebkes, Arnold Eiten and Melvin Haupt accompanied by Elizabeth Eekhoff, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Abe deNeui and Mrs. Evert Heikens. Pall bearers were Willard Ross, Richard Ross, Kenneth Ross, William D. Huisman, Jerry Huisman and Donald Purvis. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Grietje Riekena was born on January 23, 1879, in Shiloh township, Grundy County, Iowa as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ross.
On February 7, 1901 she was married to Peter B. Riekena, and since that time she has lived on the farm in the Wellsburg area. To them four children were born, namely: two sons, Ben and William and two daughters, Gladys and Grace.
Mrs. Riekena died of a heart ailment on Tuesday, September 29, 1959 at 5 a.m. at the Grundy County Memorial hospital, where she had been taken the previous Friday. She attained the age of 80 years, 8 months and 6 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, in November, 1953; two brothers, Albert W. Ross in May, 1958 and Rieke W. Ross in June, 1959.
The survivors are her four children: Ben of Wellsburg, and Gladys, Grace and William at home; as well as one sister, Mrs. Dick Huisman Sr. of Wellsburg, also four brothers: Henry Ross, Claus Ross and John Ross all of Wellsburg, and Will Ross of Holland.
