Funeral Services For Mrs. Ben Eiten
Mrs. Ben Eiten suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, May 3, 1954 in the Grundy Co. Memorial Hospital. She had been taken there the previous evening when she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage which proved to be fatal. Until the time of her death she had been in average good health. She reached the age of 54 years, 11 months and 2 days.
Mrs. Eiten was born Gertie Bunger, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Bunger, entering upon this life on June 1, 1899. All of her life was spent in Shiloh Township, the greater part living at home with her parents on their farm 2 1/2 miles south of Wellsburg. During several of these years she devoted much of time to caring for her sick mother. In 1921 she publicly professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Saviour and Lord in the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg. She was an active and faithful member of this church and belonged to the Ladies Guild, of which she had served as an officer.
August 30, 1949 was the date of her marriage to Ben Eiten. Together they lived on his farm for two years after which they retired and moved to Wellsburg.
Surviving her are her husband, three step-children, Harvey, Lillian, and Alfred Eiten; her aged father, and two brothers and two sisters, Tillie (Mrs. John Reents), Coert, Eita (Mrs. Odie H. Nederhoff), and Lambert. Preceding her in death was her mother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 5, 1954 at 1 p.m. at the home and later in the First Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Alfred Hannink officiated. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Casketbearers were Coert J. Nederhoff, Gratus J. Nederhoff, Coert C. Nederhoff, Coert H. Bunger, Tielko H. Bunger, and Lubert Meyer.
