Mrs. Hemmo Luppen Passed Away Monday
Mrs. Hemmo Luppen passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, March 8, 1954, thus departing this life in the quietness of sleep. The immediate cause of her death was a heart ailment. The general condition of her health had also been declining recently. At the time of her decease she had reached the full age of 79 years, 11 months, and 25 days.
Her maiden name was Dirtje Mennenga, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jans Mennenga, born on March 12, 1874 in Shiloh Township. All of her life was spent in the Wellsburg area. The sacrament of infant baptism was administered to her and throughout her life she was a member by baptism of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.
On April 7, 1904 she was married to Hemmo Luppen. The greatest part of their married life was spent on a farm 1 mile west and 1 3/4 miles south of Wellsburg. In September 1945 they retired and moved to Wellsburg where they resided at the time of her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Luppen were blessed with two children, a daughter, Johanna, and a son, Fred.
Surviving her and mourning her passing are her husband, her son, and three grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Obo and John, and two sisters, Gertie (Mrs. John Rah) and Ettje (Mrs. Hilko Bleeker), and her daughter, Johanna (Mrs. Harm H. Meyer).
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) March 10, 1954 at 1 p.m. in the home and later in the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg. The Rev. Alfred Hannink officiated. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Casketbearers were Evert Bleeker, Jans Mennenga, Edward Mennenga, Herman E. Ruter, Ben Eiten and Fred Eiten.
