Pioneer Grundy Resident Dies At Ackley Home
Funeral services for Mrs. Antje Geerdes were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Leslie Kuiper officiated at the service.
Music was given by a men's quartet, Claus G. Primus, Harvey Eiten, Alfred Eiten, and Willis Bakker accompanied by Mrs. Claus G. Primus. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.
Pall bearers were Gordon Geerdes, Don Geerdes, Gregory Geerdes, Bert Geerdes, John Wilts and Wesley Harms. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Antje Geerdes, daughter of Ben and Grace (Ohden) Riekena, was born in Grundy County, Iowa on July 7, 1884. She attended a rural school in Grundy County.
On March 3, 1904 she was united in marriage to George J. Geerdes, making their home on a farm in Hardin County. They moved to Steamboat Rock in 1938. Mrs. Geerdes was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.
She passed away on May 11, 1977 at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley where she had resided for the past three years.
Those who mourn her death are four sons and three daughters: Ben G. Geerdes of Wellsburg, Mrs. Evert (Bessie) Bleeker, Edward Geerdes, Mrs. Abe (Verna) Wilts of Ackley; Alfred Geerdes of Gladbrook, Gratus Geerdes and Mrs. George (Freda) Harms of Steamboat Rock, also 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding the deceased in death were her parents, her husband who died December 27, 1964, one son, Jake, one grandson, four brothers and four sisters.
Andrle and Creps Funeral Home of Eldora was in charge of arrangements.
