Minnie Heikens Died Friday Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Heikens were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 25, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Clergyman was Rev. Kasjen Tebben of Cedar Falls. Music was given by the Messengers Quartet, Richard Schafer, Arnold Eiten, Melvin Haupt and Lary Riebkes accompanied by Mrs. Henry L. Vandevoort, organist. Mrs. Elmer Fritzel and Mrs. Gary Fairbanks were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Meint J. Bakker, Evert L. Bakker, Edward Miller, Gratus Miller, Gratus Mudderman, Willard Riekena and Rudolf Sents. Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Minnie Heikens passed away late Friday evening, July 21, at her home in Wellsburg due to an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 79 years, 11 months and 23 days.
She was born on a farm in Shiloh township northwest of Wellsburg on July 28, 1892, the daughter of Evert A. and Steena (Swyter) Ross. She attended the rural school in the area. On March 8, 1917, she was united in marriage to Ebbo Heikens. Following their marriage they resided on the Heikens home place farm. This union was blessed with one daughter and one son.
They were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on March 8, 1967 with their family and friends. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where she made confession of her faith.
They retired from the farm in 1956 and moved to Wellsburg. Mr. Heikens passed away on July 23, 1969.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Those left to mourn her passing are: 1 daughter (Henrietta) Mrs. Benjamin Primus of Eldora; 1 son, Evert Heikens of Wellsburg; 5 grandchildren: Wendell Primus, (Mary Jane), Mrs. Claude Reindl, Rodney Heikens, (Twyla) Mrs. Robert Megaw, Roger Heikens; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and 1 brother: Mrs. Anna Bakker of Wellsburg, Mrs. Rena Miller of Dike, Mrs. Dena Harms of Wellsburg; (Tena) Mrs. Heike Miller of Spirit Lake; Willie E. Ross of Estherville and other relatives and friends.
