Chris E. Christians, 85, of Wellsburg, died January 4 at Ackley Presbyterian Village, Ackley. Funeral services were January 7 at First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Pastor Tom Vos officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Chris was born April 22, 1916 at home, in Shiloh Township, rural Grundy County, the son of Ede and Anna (Eckhoff) Christians. He attended Pine Creek country school in rural Grundy County. On January 25, 1938, Chris was united in marriage to Jennie E. Geiken at the parsonage of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley. He farmed the home farm all of his adult life. Chris and Jennie moved to Wellsburg in the fall of 1979. He retired from farming in 1981. Chris and Jennie moved to the Presbyterian Village in Ackley in June of 1999.

Chris was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg. He had served as a Deacon on the Church Consistory for several years. Chris had also served on the cemetery committee at church for a number of years. Chris enjoyed watching his children's sporting events as they were growing up. He also enjoyed watching local sporting events.

Survivors include three sons, Edward Christians and his wife Bonnie of Wellsburg, Merle Christians and his wife Sandy of Peoria, IL and Calvin Christians and his wife Sharee of Dubuque; one daughter, Joan Mooney and her husband Floyd of Gifford; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie on March 28, 2001; his parents; one brother, Arend Christians; and two sisters, Martha Harms and Anna Ascher.
