Obituary of Mrs. B. C. Lynde
Clarissa Pierce was born near Boston, March 14, 1820, where she spent her youth. At the age of 14 years she was united in marriage to Benjamin C. Lynde. They moved from Boston to Collins, Erie county, New York, where twelve of their children were born. In 1867 they came west and settled near Marengo, Illinois, where Charles was born. In 1871 they moved to Black Hawk county, Iowa, where they resided until 1873 when they settled on a farm in Grundy county. Mrs. Lynde has lived in Grundy Center about 15 years.
Her husband and three sons are buried here Myron, D. La, and Wm. Four of the children died in the east. She leaves six children to mourn her loss. Mrs. Marinda Staffin of Dixboro, Mich. and Theodore Lynde of Monett, Mo., were unable to be with her on account of sickness. The others, Mrs. Emma Odell of Toledo, Ohio, Mariah and George of Grundy Center and Charles of Ocheyeden, Iowa, were at their mother's bedside when the end came.
The children have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Death was due to heart failure. She passed away March 20th at 10 p.m., conscious to the last. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. G. H. Kennedy.
