Allen Aswegan Services Held

Allen J. Aswegan, of Muscatine, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Friday, May 22, at his residence of natural causes. He attained the age of 60 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Pastor Dean Kelly officiated. Military graveside services were performed by the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and the Amvets #17.

Pallbearers were Fred Junker, Tin Junker, Ted Junker, Kelly Tegtmeier, Dan Aswegan and John Haller.

A memorial fund has been established.

Allen was born on January 7, 1938, in Iowa City, the son of John and Ellen (Ash) Aswegan. He graduated High School and attended Muscatine Junior College for two years, earning his Associate Degree. He entered the Army in 1956, and was discharged in 1958. He then entered the Army National Guard for two years. He was united in marriage to Ramona Bahrends on October 26, 1958, at the Stout Reformed Church in Stout. The couple made their home in Grundy Center, until moving to Muscatine on August 12, 1963. Allen had been employed by Muscatine Power and Water for over 30 years.

Allen was a member of the National Rifleman's Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ramona on March 4, 1991 and his father.

Survivors include his son, Allen and wife Carmen Aswegan of Muscatine; 2 daughters, Robin Haller and Caroline Aswegan, both of Grundy Center; 3 grandchildren; his mother, Ellen Aswegan of Grundy Center; and a twin brother, Elden and his wife Alys Aswegan of Cedar Falls.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
