Iva Beckman, Age 91, Dies

Mrs. Iva M. Beckman of Grundy Center passed away at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, December 8, at the Hospitality Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Grundy Center, on Thursday, December 12, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor D. Ward Young officiated.

Mrs. Marilyn DeLange sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". She was accompanied by Mrs. Jack Stumberg, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Ronald Starr, Michael Beckman, Murle Dietz, Jr., Steven Kessell, Christopher Dietz, and Curtis Dietz.

The ushers were L. C. Pike and William Sievert. Mrs. William Sievert and Mrs. Roger Peters were in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal services were held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mrs. Beckman was born on June 14, 1894, in Grundy Center, the daughter of John A. and Sarah Lucinda Reynolds Morrison. She attained the age of 91 years, five months, and 24 days.

She received her education in the Grundy County schools.

She was united in marriage to John A. Beckman on December 1, 1915. She worked at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital for several years in the Dietary Department. She dedicated her life to her family, church, and her volunteer work at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the Winmore Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Vernon on May 14, 1981, one infant daughter, one grandson, Kenneth Shimp, and by three brothers.

She is survived by one son, John O. Beckman of Manchester; one daughter, Mrs. Martin (Lorayne) Shimp of Eureka Springs, AR; two brothers, Floyd Morrison of Grundy Center and Lloyd Morrison of Boulder City, NV; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Genevieve) Baldwin of RR1, Grundy Center; and by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
