Thurlow Allgood, Former Grundy Resident, Dies
Thurlow (Sam) Allgood, age 70, of Spring Valley, MN and formerly of Grundy Center, passed away Sunday morning, August 15, at Spring Valley Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, August 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Rev. William Branham officiated the service.
Miss Kelly Cooley sang "In The Garden" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." She was accompanied by Mrs. Neil Freitag.
Casket bearers were Mark Allgood, Burnett Brandt, Dean Brandt, William Cooley, Bruce Ishman and Scott Spieker.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Allgood was born January 31, 1912 in Grundy Center, the son of Jesse and Eva Buchan Allgood. He grew up in Grundy county and attended Washington Township #2 rural school and Grundy Center high school. He was employed at various jobs around Grundy Center.
On June 21, 1934 in Waterloo he was united in marriage to Arlene Johnson of Eldora. After their marriage he worked at John Deere in Waterloo. Later they moved to Minneapolis, MN and he was employed at Northern Pump Co. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and France in 1945 and 1946. Following his retirement they lived in Harmony, MN and spent several winters in Texas. They have lived in Spring Valley, MN for the past three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; one son, James of Minneapolis, MN; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Gibson of Burleson, TX; five grandchildren; one brother, William of Minneapolis, MN; and three sisters, Mrs. J. B. (Pauline) McFarland of Seattle, WA; Mrs. Donald (Avis) Ishman of Lime Springs, and Mrs. Harry (Jessie) Cooley of Morrison.
A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
